Gel Polishes

Postby bnaild » Thu May 12, 2011 7:29 pm

Just doing a bit of research on the different gel polish ranges since there are so many around now. I have only tried Gelish but I know there are so many more so I would love hear a bit about peoples experiences with different brands. What you've used ... what you've liked .... and especially anything you didn't like. Also if they can be cured with LED & UV or just UV.

Thank you

Hi, i've only used CND Shellac and i'm very happy with it. Not sure if it would cure with LED i've only tried UV. I find it easy to apply and lasts really well, my clients love it. Sorry I can't help with any of the other brands as this is the only one i've tried.
Hope that helps a little :)

It does help thank you. I figure the more input I can get the better choice I'll be able to make. Can I ask what your removal time is with shellac?

thanks atm I'm thinking soak off times & colour range will be the major deciding factors.

I used CND Shellac & Gelique by Hawley and find them both great.

Both take about 10 minutes to soak off, Gelique is slightly thinner than Shellac and I find it easier to apply. Price wise I prefer Gelique, it's 15ml (not 7ml) like Shellac. Because Shellac has has been out for longer they have a larger color range whereas Gelique have only 15 colors and more coming in the next couple of weeks/months

i forgot to mention that shellac topcoat is really thick and can be a bugger to apply sometimes especially when its really cold

Thanks, do you buff the gelique before soaking?

Not at all :) I apply bit of vaseline around the fingertips (to protect from acetone) wrap each finger with cotton wool and then foil, leave for 10 minutes then lightly scrape off with orange wood stick

Here is a quick video on how to apply: http://youtu.be/beWlv1v-dhc

Video on how to remove : http://youtu.be/uxmmUt3IEhU (this video shows that they lightly buff first but I've never don that and they come off just fine :)

Hope this helps

The Shellac does only take 10min to soak off I sometimes don't even leave it that long and its just as easy to get off. By the time I wrap all the nails in acetone and foil, scrap off colour then file to get ready to reapply I would say the whole process takes me about 20min.

I agree too that they need more different colours that is the only let down, I know you can do layering to get different colours but I find that turns out a bit streaky:(

Hi Desi

A quick question about Gelique, I used to use the young nails gel polish, but sold that when I stopped doing nails a year ago since then I have moved from sydney to the north coast and now have an opportunity to work in a beautiful hair salon, the hairdresser already has gelique which I will be using, my question is do you apply the gelique gel polish first before doing the full steps of a mani or pedi like young nails or you can do it at the end like normal polish.

Thanks Bettina :)
