Help with acrylic nails falling off :(

Postby Desi » Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:09 pm

Hi there,

I have a client that the acrylic nails just won't stay on her :(

I pay special attention to prepping the nail, making sure I do it properly, 2 days later 3 or 4 of the nails just "pop" off. They don't break or anything, they just come off clean. I just don't know why!!

Tonight I tried brisa gel on her, I'm hoping these will stay on.

Any ideas as to why this might be happening???

Desi, I do nails for my sister-in-law and never had any problems. Then she changed the type of contraceptive pill she was on. Two days later...'pop, pop, pop', they all came off. Haven't been able to keep a set on her since. Perhaps it is medication-related?

I've asked all these questions regarding medication, she doesn't take anything (not even the pill)

So not pills/tablets, no past or current illnesess, she works in a import export company (typing) doesn't do any gardening, doesn't use any creams etc.

I'm lost at what to do :(

This is a set I did on her (which only lasted 2 days, she lost 5 of them :( !

i have just found out why my nails pop after a couple of days

the glue that i use on the tips ...... it just doesnt stick to my nails ....... i have tried from cheap glue to expensive ..... it still pops

i have found that if i sculpt my nails on i have a long wear time out of them

im rough on my hands so i tried being a diva but they still popped off

my mums acrylic and gel nails all pop off in 24 hours but i have put that down to years of working with chemicals

might be a genetic thing ????????

ps love the design

Hi Desi,

Love the design.....!!! Very nice :D :D :D

ok, there could be a few things......( also there could be some things this client is not telling you as well / maybe )

1: Glue ?
2: Product ?
3: Change of life ??
4: Oily nail beds ?

I know she told you that she is not on meds/or she doesn't garden etc........but what about the following ?

1: does she use products to wash up
2: she must use some type of hand cream
3: Is she on certain meds ( pill / HRT / vitamins ?? )
4: shampoos/conditioners

I know I am just taking a stab in the dark, but there must be something that is not agreeing with this lady.

Ok, you use Avolve, great product, why not try another one on her??? Let us know how the gels go...

Good luck....

Trude

Hi Desi,

What about stress, I thought that nails can start to lift / pop off if a person is under alot of stress. Please correct me if I am wrong...

hmm its a tough one Desi, usually most problems like that are due to prep work.

Deheydrating and cleaning the nail plate properly
Doing all your cuticle work
Washing off the cuticle remover well enough
Using a primer even if your system doesn't require it

Always after i lay my free edge colour acrylic, i go back and give the nails another clean with scrubfresh or nail pure plus and then lay my clear/pink etc.
If i know its a problem client i always go back and clean one hand first and lay the clear/pink and then do the same to the other hand,
so its not giving the nail plate enough time to generate the natural oils before you lay your product :)

But like Trude i'm also just taking a stab in the dark :D

Thanks all for all your replies, I know it's a tough one. She's a young girl, wouldn't think she might have much stress at her age, if she did, we (the older ones) would be in big trouble!

I have been through everything with her, her creams, lotions and potions and can't think of any of those would cause this, also she doesn't wear much make-up apart from a bit of mascara, she's pretty!

The only thing I can think of and I'm almost sure now that this is it, is that she has oily nail beds. Even after prepping, scrubbing, exfoliating, dehydrating REALLY well there still seems to be a very very slight shine to her nails.

I'm waiting to hear back from her to see how the gel is going. I'm hoping that this will work.

If not, I think I will then just help her grow her natural nails! :?

Yep!

she is the only client I have that has problems with lifting or falling off (thankfully) so I know it's not my prep or application it has to be something with her nails!

Desi I know its a bit of a pain in the butt, but I would prep her one nail at a time, then apply product, then prep another nail, apply product and keep going like that.... Also has she had acrylic or gel before elsewhere and had the same problem? I have a client who without fail will lose a nail or 2 and apparently they just pop off... well she has come clean (after 3 years) and told me she has bi-polar and is manic depressant... MEDS EVERYWHERE!! :D Good luck!!

She has had nails on before from a Professionail place and she said that she had quite a bit of lifting, and of course the cut cuticles, damaged nails etc., etc. that come free by going to one of those places! lol

She said she has also had nails fall off from them evenalthough their product is cement, it still came off.

Tess, I will try and do it one by one and see how I go with that.

Desi, just a thought. Does she use any petroelum based products such as vaseline, deep heat etc, menthol rubs etc. I have found that products that are petroleum based will ping nails straight off. I had the same trouble with nails pinging off one client only and after eliminating everything else it turned out she was massaging her husband with deep heat. When she stopped using it she also stopped losing nails.
